These 2 planets were last conjunct in 1989 and were exact on 3 March, 24 June and 13 November 1989. The Berlin Wall fell on 9 Nov 1989 and marked the end of the Cold War with the fall of communism in Eastern and Central Europe. The wall was torn down by demonstrators with sledgehammers. This wall had stood from 1961 to 1989 separating East and West Germany. A series of revolutions in Hungary and Poland in 1989 caused a chain reaction in East Germany.

Following the defeat of Nazi Germany in WW2, the Soviet Union installed communist regimes in Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, East Germany and Albania. In 1949 this grouping formed a communist alliance under the Warsaw Pact. The Western grouping of countries of the US in 1949 formed NATO. This was the start of the Cold War between US and the Soviet Union. East versus West.

With the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which is now more west leaning, together with more countries wanting to join NATO, Russia sees this as a direct threat. Things are likely to come to a head in early 2026 when Saturn and Neptune join again in conjunction just like they did in 1989.

In these turbulent times when as humanity we are dealing with endings and beginnings, life can feel out of control. It’s important to remember simple practices to ground ourselves. Be in nature, walk in nature and focus on the breath. These are simple practices to regulate our systems in times of uncertainty.

Breathe in on count of 6, hold for 2 and out for 8. Or breathe in peace, breathe out love. Find something that works for you. Find stillness. More being and less doing.

The full moon on 21 July 2024 emphasises the need for changes in society. Ordinary people are demanding change from leaders. There is a certain level of frustration with the Mars, Uranus conjunction. But with a trine to Moon Pluto and sextile to Sun, change is possible. It’s time to act and create the change we want to see in the world.

15 July 2024 Mars will conjunct Uranus at 26 Taurus. This is a Mars in detriment and likely to behave badly. With the unpredictable energy of Uranus we should expect some disruptions.

On 11 June we saw this Mars square Pluto – a show of force. This is a stubborn and difficult Mars in detriment in Taurus. A day later it was reported that Russian war ships had arrived in Cuba.
