Covid changed many things in our society and challenged our belief systems around structured growth and development. This period accelerated the commercial Generative AI boom with widespread use of public tools like ChatGPT, Claude and Google Gemini. Lockdown moved life online and social media use and online shopping exploded across the world. People worked from home and this allowed more flexibility in terms of working life. But it also opened up new levels of technological control now that people were not working in an office. People felt more lonely and isolated yet we were all connected online.
Jupiter square Saturn – Aug 2024 and June 2025. This was an important period in this cycle as it was clear growth and development needed certain guard rails. It became evident that AI and Social Media would have long term implications for society especially young people. Mental health issues escalated amongst the youth.
Jupiter trine Saturn – Sep 2026 and July 2027. We are further along the road of understanding how these changes impact society. In late Aug 2026 Meta agreed to a landmark settlement of up to $18 million in acknowledgment of the harm social media is causing to the mental health of society especially young people. The case argued that these platforms were designed with algorithmic features to hook young minds and steer them toward explicit content and online predators. Meta has been ordered to implement screen time limits, block night time notifications to protect sleep, remove data profiles that targeted children and upgrade tools to verify user ages across platforms. The legal precedent of defining social media algorithms as a public nuisance sets a foundation to monitor technology development in the future.
For too long social media companies took no responsibility for the harms created in society. So it is interesting that now that Saturn and Jupiter are in trine and Saturn is in fall in Aries, these companies have had to step up and accept that their actions have caused harm to society.
Jupiter will opposed Saturn between Dec 2029 and Oct 2031. That will be another important inflection point in our understanding of the social changes since Covid. We will probably have a better indication of the changes in the job market with the development of AI. We might even see some roles disappear and be replaced by new opportunities.
